All of our boards are crafted from prime select materials but as with any natural wood product there can be slight flaws and inconsistencies. For me this is part of the beauty of the wood, it has character and does not look fake. Grain patterns vary, colors vary, and this is what creates unique pieces. All of our boards are sanded to a 320 grit and then coated with a food safe mineral oil product. Once the boards have taken in the mineral oil, they are then finished with a food safe Mineral oil and Bee's wax paste for further protection. As with any wood cutting board normal maintenance should be performed to extend the life of your board which can be as easy as applying an additional coat of mineral oil and wax as needed down the road. We offer our own Board Butter paste which is made from 100% food safe organic Bee's wax and mineral oil. All boards should be hand washed and never soaked in water or placed in dishwasher. A simple warm water rinse with soap and a light sponge wipe down and dry will greatly extend the life of your board.

These boards tend to be easier on knife edges as the grain acts like a bunch of vertical straws which allows for the knife edge to more easily enter the grain. They tend to typically require a little more maintenance and cleaning but for people using high dollar knives they can be the right choice. End grain boards require a minimum of 2 or more assembly and glue ups depending on patterns. They also tend to be thicker than other boards 1 1/2" to 2", to avoid warpage. Sanding and finishing also can be more substantial to establish the desired finish; hence the cost is typically higher

Edge and face grain boards are the most common type of cutting board in the marketplace. These boards tend to be harder due to the tightness of grain and are a blunter surface for knives but most of us will never know the difference. I actually prefer edge grain for chopping but then again, I'm not using $200 razor sharp cutlery. Some face and edge grain boards only require 1 assembly and glue up which can make them more affordable but mixed pattern edge or face grain boards can still have 2 or more. These boards can be much thinner than end grain boards, but I prefer to keep most of our edge and face grain boards a minimum of 3/4" up to 1 3/4" thick

We offer a wide range of custom designed wood and resin serving boards in multiple sizes, colors and shapes. The possibilities are endless it's just a matter of your taste. Most of these items are made to order and take considerably more time just due to the curing process and time involved with finishing. These are considered serving boards or platters and not recommended for cutting on. Although the resin itself is food safe once cured and so is the oil and beeswax finish, I'm not a fan of scoring the resin with a sharp knife. Much like the HDPE boards which are everywhere and have their advantages I believe you can wind up scraping micro plastics into your food. I myself have used them for years so I'm not passing judgement, and this is just my opinion.
